Today, my two daughters and I went out for lunch at one of our local cafes. We have been there many times before. This time, we had the pleasure of sitting opposite a couple. The woman was from South Korea, and the man was from England. We shared stories about each other’s countries, asked questions, smiled, laughed, hoped, and dreamed.
The beautiful South Korean woman took out her journal and drew a picture of my daughters. Her sketch was unique, and I told her she was very talented. She smiled and told me she was interested in art.

I realised after this interaction that there is no segregation within the kindness of humanity. You can feel so close to someone because of the kindness they exude. I felt it in the love and care this couple gave my children. They were a special pair, and I wished them well before they left to go on a walk along the river.

I don’t know if I’ll ever see them again, but I’m grateful for that interaction and the authentic connection. The gift of communicating with people from two places I’ve yet to venture to, yet the love, respect, and kindness shone through like the sun. A familiar warmth I’d welcome any day.

We also enjoyed a walk through the autumn gardens beside the river. I’ll always remember that lunch date.
